Joan and Tony at work

Healing Conversations with my parents and aunts and those Tony Silbert, my co-author, had with his mother motivated us to write a book, “Healing Conversations Toward End of Life” It is full of stories of Healing Conversations and describes ways to engage in them.

Too often we miss valuable and limited opportunities to learn about our elders and our families because we just don’t know where to begin. In the book we tell you how. You’ll find questions to begin conversations, to deepen and to make meaning of them.

If you initiate Healing Conversations you will learn about your loved ones, expand your relationship with them and support them to find peace and acceptance.  You will also learn about yourself and won’t be the same after you have had Healing Conversations.

The book is due to be published early 2010.

Abstract

Years of asking my elder aunts for life stories and listening to their responses has created

something I call a ‘listening field’. It is a web of connections, intentions and appreciation

that supports and enlivens. In the listening web my aunts told vibrant, fresh stories that

prompted them to reflect and reframe their lives while enhancing my personal history. It

allowed for their appreciative life review and for me to resolve issues. This article tells the

story of creating a listening field.
